MELTZER TO HOST THIRD JOB-HUNTING SEMINAR

September 2, 2009

After receiving high turnouts of up to 200 people for past seminars to equip unemployed residents with job search skills, state Rep. Kim Meltzer will host a third job-hunting seminar to focus on advice from recruiting and human resource professionals.

"Unfortunately, there are still many residents out there who need help finding a job and find the process daunting," said Meltzer, R-Clinton Township. "This third workshop will provide job seekers the opportunity to ask the questions of recruiting professionals, such as why a resume is rejected or how to handle a job interview. We will also focus on developing digital literacy to advance career development."

Topics discussed at the free town hall will include comprehensive information on social networking for career development. Meltzer will also moderate a panel discussion with recruiters in fields of engineering, office administration, industrial trades, IT, health care and government sector jobs.

Job seekers will have an opportunity to receive a free resume review session and personal financial advice for managing a layoff. Exhibitors will be available from MI Works, social service agencies, and local job search groups. Counselors will be on hand from several local higher education and adult education programs. As unemployed workers seek to retool for a new career, Meltzer said it is critical that Michigan residents consider training programs and certifications that can move them ahead in the job market.

The job-hunting seminar takes place on Tuesday, September 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, located at 17051 24 Mile Road in Macomb Township. St. Peter's is located on the Northwest corners of 24 Mile Rd. and Romeo Plank Road.
