Fight for Jobs
Creating new jobs and attracting entrepreneurs will only happen if we make
Michigan one of the best states in the nation for companies to innovate, invest
and create. House Republicans are committed to getting Michigan's economy back
on track, and we're working every day to make Michigan a magnet for new jobs and
investment.
House Republicans will fight attempts by Governor Granholm and House
Democrats to raise taxes on families, our small businesses and entrepreneurs.
Raising taxes on struggling families and job providers will only prolong our
economic troubles.
Reform Government
There are only two ways for Michigan to fix its budget deficit. Either
government reforms and tightens its belt, or families will be forced to tighten
theirs. Michigan families are already struggling with a tough employment and
housing market, and the last thing we should do is ask them to pay more to fund
a bloated state bureaucracy.
Our automakers and major job providers have been forced to restructure and
reform their operations to compete in a global economy - and so must state
government. House Republicans are dedicated to reforming government to ensure
that every taxpayer dollar is wisely spent.
Improve Education for Every Child
Attracting the high paying jobs of the future begins with developing a highly
skilled and educated Michigan work force. From kindergarten through college,
House Republicans are committed to providing the resources necessary to
guarantee that every Michigan child has the opportunity to succeed in the
classroom.
But funding is only half of the equation. House Republicans will demand
accountability to ensure our investments go into the classroom to lower class
sizes, improve test scores and prepare our students for the global economy.
The Michigan Quality of Life
For generations, Michigan was revered as a state with high paying jobs,
unparalleled natural resources and a quality of life that attracted workers and
families from around the globe. This legacy is in danger today as thousands of
our best and brightest young workers leave our peninsulas for jobs and
opportunities in other states.
To uphold our proud legacy and regain our status as a beacon for families,
Michigan must renew its commitment to being the best place to work, live and
raise a family. That means government is accountable and provides services to
the taxpayer at a reasonable cost, an education system that puts dollars into
the classroom to prepare students for the jobs of the future and an economic
climate that cultivates the next generation of entrepreneurs who will define our
economy in the next century.
